Peacock Experiments with Interactive Scenes to Give Fans a Deeper Dive into The Real Housewives Franchise

New Feature Allows Viewers to Dive Deeper into Extended Clips and Exclusive Interviews from Within an Episode of ‘The Real Housewives’

In a move aimed at enhancing viewer engagement, NBCUniversal’s Peacock is introducing a new interactive video feature that will enable premium subscribers to explore extended clips and exclusive interviews from within episodes of their favorite shows. The innovative feature, which is set to roll out in the coming months, promises to provide an immersive viewing experience for fans of ‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip,’ a hit series that has captured the attention of audiences worldwide.

A Sneak Peek at the Feature

From October 14-16, attendees of BravoCon will have the opportunity to preview the new feature by watching an episode from season 2 of ‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip.’ The interactive experience is currently being tested on Roku devices but will gradually be made available on other platforms in due course. Season 3 of the show, which is set to premiere next year, will be the first to benefit from this innovative feature.

How it Works

When a viewer is watching an episode of ‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip’ and reaches an interactive scene, they will be prompted to get their remote ready for a deeper dive into that particular moment. With around 15 seconds to decide, viewers can choose to watch extended footage or exclusive interviews that provide further insight into the characters’ thoughts and motivations during that scene.

Opt-in Experience

It’s worth noting that viewers are not required to select anything and can continue watching the main story if they prefer. However, those who want to experience the interactive feature can opt-in to watch a director’s cut-like version of the episode, which offers a more in-depth look at the show.

"We’re not forcing everyone to change the way they’re watching their favorite show," said John Jelley, Senior Vice President, Product & UX, Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer, NBCUniversal. "This is an opt-in experience that gives fans the choice to dive deeper into the most dramatic ‘Housewives’ moments on their own terms."

Partnering with Bravo

The team at Bravo worked closely with Peacock to film scenes specifically for the interactive feature, which is exclusive to the platform. One example of this collaboration is the ability to watch what’s happening in the next room during a scene, as Jelley explained.

The Benefits of Interactive Content

This new feature has the potential to attract new fans to the platform, according to Jelley. "Now that we’re an exclusive streaming home for Bravo content, it’s an opportunity to show Bravo fans that Peacock is a great place to come for this type of content," he said.

The introduction of interactive features like this one is part of NBCUniversal’s ongoing efforts to invest in innovative experiences that engage viewers further. In May, the company announced ‘Catch Up with Key Plays,’ which allows English Premier League viewers to stream highlights without disrupting the game. Peacock also recently launched a ‘Halloween Nightmare Game,’ an interactive virtual escape room experience that requires viewers to click on different objects on the screen.

A Partnership with Meta

This announcement comes as part of NBCUniversal’s partnership with Meta, which aims to bring the Peacock streaming app to the Meta Quest virtual reality headset. This move will allow users to immerse themselves in their favorite shows like never before.

Conclusion

The interactive video feature is a significant step forward for Peacock, offering viewers an unparalleled level of engagement and immersion. As the company continues to invest in innovative experiences that push the boundaries of traditional viewing, it’s clear that NBCUniversal is committed to providing its subscribers with an exceptional experience that sets them apart from other streaming platforms.
